I’ve never been sure if Egypt would be a safe place to visit, as it is placed as one of the riskiest places for travelers and tourists. Due to a sharp increase in terrorist attacks and
criminal activity, it has been strongly advised against as a tourist option. One of these examples is the Governorate of North Sinai, which has been deemed as one of the most dangerous areas of Egypt. Although most of these attacks are directed towards police forces, many civilians and tourists have been targeted as well.
But I’ve always suspected there’d be some falseness to this. Although there are places where cri
minal activity is prevalent, there are also areas that are a great and safe place to travel. An example would be the renowned Great Sphinx of Giza, which features a gigantic lion carved by the Egyptians over 4,500 years ago. Its face resembles king Khafre, but it has never been confirmed. The sphinx is made up of limestone, which has derived from the depths of the sea surrounding northeast Africa centuries ago. Beyond the embodiment of Khafre is the Giza Necropolis, which is a complex of pyramids built by the king’s workers between 2686—2181 BC. Surviving for more than centuries, these pyramids are the tallest in Egypt and have stood the test of time.
Because once I witnessed the intricate architecture of the ancient Egyptians and have not once heard of any criminal activity, I have come to realize that Egypt may not be as bad as statistics have stated, which made me think that it is a wonderful place to visit after all. Besides the Great Sphinx and Giza Necropolis, there are many other options to choose from, such as the Abu Simbel Temples and the Pyramid of Djoser.
Finally, I realized that people should listen to their own intuition based on their own knowledge instead of listening strictly to statistics or what other people say. In other words, tourists shouldn’t be closed-minded on where or where not to travel, as they may miss some of the best experiences that they could ever find. Although a country could be labeled as “dangerous” or “hazardous”, it may not be as bad as others make them out to be. There are countless areas within that country that are yet to be explored and should be considered before being labeled as unsafe.
